I had the immense pleasure, alongside guests who had travelled from all over the world — Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas — to attend a magnificent wedding at this remarkable castle. This history of this place, tied up with characters like Mary Queen of Scots and Oliver Cromwell, lend it gravitas and an awe of incredulity: to actually be wining, dining and sleeping in the same rooms they would once have inhabited. The castle has been beautifully restored—the furniture, art works and other objects— it is full of atmosphere, grand yet never impersonal. The staff managed the occasion with impressive care, professionalism and ease, making guests feel welcome from the moment they arrived. Whether serving drinks and food, or assisting guests with their needs, the team was exceptional — attentive, kind, organised and quietly efficient throughout. The wines and food were excellent, the surroundings unique, the event full of fun, making this international gathering special in every way.
